We humans inflict terrible suffering. When terror overwhelms me, I paint.
My work reflects my experience:
My family’s Jewish-European history.
My emigration from the USSR as a child.
Mental health crises I have survived.
And all the wars and pogroms that break into my safe living room through the media and keep the pain alive today…
I paint not only to process my experiences, but also to create resonance and connection. We don’t know how to end wars, prevent rape, or heal trauma. However, I am convinced that if we watch, perceive, and allow ourselves to feel the pain of others, this is a beginning. That is why I paint.
